Trivia: What Question Could Billy Graham Never Fully Answer? By BGEA • July 21, 2016 Share4K+ Tweet Home >Stories >Trivia: What Question Could Billy Graham Never Fully Answer? Billy Graham delivers a message of hope during the Statewide Prayer Service held on April 23, 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing. Q: What question did Billy Graham say he could never fully answer? A: Why does God allow tragedy and suffering? Billy Graham has called this an “age-old question that none of us can fully answer.” During the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing memorial service, Billy Graham talked about times he’s asked God, “Why?” “There’s a mystery to it,” he said, referring to suffering. “I’ve been asked why God allows it. I don’t know. I can’t give a direct answer. I have to confess that I never fully understand—even for my own satisfaction. I have to accept by faith that God is a God of love and mercy and compassion—even in the midst of suffering. “… I can recall standing at the bedside of children who were dying, and I’ve asked myself, ‘Lord, why?’ I recall walking through the devastation left by hurricanes in Florida and South Carolina, and typhoons in India, and earthquakes in Guatemala and California, and I’ve asked myself, ‘Why?’ “… There’s something about evil we will never fully understand on this side of eternity.” Maybe you’ve asked God “why?” with all that’s happened in the world recently. Though tragedy and suffering are often incomprehensible, these words of hope from Billy Graham after the 9/11 terrorist attacks still offer comfort today: “We’ve seen so much that brings tears to our eyes and makes us all feel a sense of anger. But God can be trusted—even when life seems at its darkest
